The Palestinian Authority is a Terrorist Organisation under Australian Law.

THE PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY (“PA”) IS A TERRORIST ORGANISATION
UNDER AUSTRALIAN LAW

Does Labor policy embrace a terrorist organisation?”

The Australian Jewish Association (“AJA”) has obtained an opinion from one of Australia’s most experienced senior criminal barristers that the Palestinian Authority (“PA”) is a “terrorist organisation” as defined in Division 102 of the Commonwealth Criminal Code Act 1995.

The opinion has already been provided to the Government and the Opposition.

AJA President Dr David Adler said that

“AJA has believed for a long time that the Palestinian Authority, by establishing its Palestinian Authority Martyrs Fund and by advocating and encouraging terrorism, should be declared a terrorist organisation.

We sought legal advice at the highest level which has vindicated AJA’s view.”

The objectionable activities of the PA include –

1. Paying a monthly cash stipend to the families of Palestinians killed, injured or imprisoned for attacking, assisting in attacking, or planning to attack Israeli civilians.

2. Paying cash stipends rewarding participation in other types of politically-inspired violence, including riots, violent demonstrations and throwing rocks at Israeli civilians and soldiers.

3. Honouring convicted terrorists by naming mosques, streets, plazas and public events after them.

It is common for glorification of the terrorists to begin quickly after the event with public posters, billboards and speeches by officials.

Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas in a speech shown repeatedly on official Palestinian Authority TV late 2018, affirmed that paying martyrs and their families is the Palestinian Authority’s pre-eminent financial priority.”

Whichever party forms Australia’s next Government, it should declare the Palestinian Authority a terrorist organisation under Australian law as a matter of priority, and immediately cease all funding.

It is illegal to provide funds or support to a terrorist organisation under Australian law.

The AJA calls upon the ALP – Australian Labor Party, to reverse the policy announced in December 2018 that if it wins office it will unilaterally recognise a ‘State of Palestine’ governed by the Palestinian Authority.

Failure to do so would effectively embrace a terrorist organisation.

“It would be a matter of enormous concern not only to the Australian Jewish community but to all citizens of goodwill were Australia to promote the creation of a rogue state led by a terrorist organisation and to assist it financially.”

“How our Government approaches this issue also has important international significance as many other civilised democracies who share our values may well take their lead from us” Dr Adler stated.
