Senator Lee Rhiannon and NSW MP David Shoebridge — anchor a newly formed hard left Greens faction which recognises neither the rule of law, Police Authority nor the Australian state is a worry. They further say it will work to “bring about the end of capitalism”.
The formation of the group calling itself “Left Renewal” is an escalation of an ongoing battle between the so-called eastern bloc of the Greens and the group they dismiss as “tree Tories”.
In other words Communism.
Left Renewal issued a statement of principles :
“We believe . . . that capitalism is a violent and antagonistic relation between workers, and those who exploit them. As workers, whether or not we are waged, we experience perpetual violence and that this violence must be brought to an end. We therefore fight to bring about the end of capitalism,” it states.
“Capitalism depends upon violent and authoritarian divisions within the working class, such as elitism, sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, religious sectarianism, and ableism (among others). It is only with the abolition of these authoritarian relations that we will be able to create a thriving movement capable of transforming society and so must challenge these wherever we encounter it.”
The formation contradicts Greens leader Richard Di Natale comments that the party has no factions. He has called Left Renewal’s manifesto “ridiculous” and “ill-thought through” and suggested its members consider joining another party.
Rhiannon denies ever having worked as a Soviet agent but The Australian four years ago has very different ideas.
“A meeting was set up between Brown, now Greens senator Lee Rhiannon, and a man identified as the KGB station chief in Australia.”
“There is no evidence that Rhiannon, seen as an outside contender for the leadership of the Greens, ever worked as a Soviet agent. But her activities earned her an ASIO file that runs to five volumes and more than 800 pages for the nine-year period 1969 to 1978, which has been released.”
The latest Greens stunt is to label Australia Day as “Invasion Day” and is calling for the date to be changed, which is 229 years too late.! Besides the fact, if Britain hadn’t established a colony on that date, no doubt the French and Dutch who were hanging around at the time, would have done.
The Daily Telegraph reports:
ANARCHIST Greens have declared war on Australia Day, calling for the Aussie flag to be burned, celebrations to be disrupted and protest graffiti to be sprayed on walls and roads as part of a sick anti-Australia campaign.
On their Facebook page Left Renewal incited its growing band of supporters to take part in “seven days of resistance in the lead up to Invasion Day” organised by a group calling itself the “Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance”.
Left Renewal, suggested activities during the week-long “resistance” include “stealing and burning the Aus rag” — a reference to the Australian flag.
It urged people to interrupt Australia Day celebrations, erect protest banners, spray paint walls and roads, as well as “weaving, painting up, make spears, dancing on country” and other activities.
Invasion Day rally – no pride in genocide!
The war on Aboriginal people continues… Sovereignty and Justice Now!
This rally will mark 229 years since British military forces invaded Gadigal land and declared British rule over this continent, along with Aotearoa and other Pacific Islands. While colonial regime continues to hold a day of celebration, we resist the ongoing war against Aboriginal people.
From the brutalisation of black youth in detention, the murder of men and women in custody, the theft of children from families, the destruction of Aboriginal lands to feed corporate profits, the apartheid NT Intervention, the forced removal of communities,
First Nations on this continent are under heavy assault from a new wave of dispossession. But the fightback is also growing and urgently needs your support.
The strange part is that the Federal Greens leader Richard Di Natale has refused to condemn a campaign by anarchist Greens who have declared war on Australia Day.
Sydney newspaper The Australian has reported that Left Renewal, a radical splinter group which sprang out of the NSW Greens and includes party members, candidates and political staffers, is trying to orchestrate a week-long “resistance” against the national day.
Left Renewal has called on supporters to steal and burn the “Aus rag” — a reference to the Australian flag. It is also urging demonstrators to disrupt barbecues, erect protest banners and spray paint walls and roads.
Senator Di Natale’s office refused to comment.
But NSW Greens MP David Shoebridge, whose staffer Tom Raue is a Left Renewal supporter, said the broader party did not support Australia Day anarchy.
However, he said that January 26 was an
“extremely controversial day to celebrate Australian nationhood”
“for our first peoples” it “commemorates the invasion of their land and two and a quarter centuries of violence, oppression and dispossession”.
A furious now ex-NSW Premier, Mike Baird, condemned Left Renewal’s actions.
“Australia Day is a day for all Australians,’’
“Anybody setting out to disrupt those celebrations, or promote disrespect for our flag, will be unsuccessful.”
