ADALAH – a grantee of the NIF

Adalah is an Arabic word which means justice  and denotes The Justice of God. It is among the five Shia Principles of the Religion.

So what’s a so-called Israeli group, that is a grantee of the NIF – New Israel Fund, doing with an Arabic name?

One also has to wonder why Jews, or should I say Far Left/Loony Left/The Enemy within, call them what you will, work so hard with groups like this against the State of Israel and why She allows it.

According to their web site it seems they are helping the self-styled  ‘Palestinian people’ fight  against the Israeli government.

Adalah (“Justice” in Arabic) is an independent human rights organization and legal center. Established in November 1996, it works to promote and defend the rights of Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel, 1.2 million people, or 20% of the population, as well as Palestinians living in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).

 Adalah seeks to achieve equal individual and collective rights for Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel and to defend against gross human rights violations against Palestinian residents of the OPT. To achieve these goals, Adalah:

  • Brings impact litigation and other legal interventions before Israeli courts and state authorities;
  • Provides legal consultation to individuals, NGOs, and institutions;
  • Appeals to international institutions and fora;
  • Organizes legal seminars and conferences;
  • Publishes reports and analyses of critical legal issues;
  • Conducts extensive media outreach in Arabic, Hebrew and English locally and internationally;
  • Trains legal apprentices and new lawyers in human rights litigation and advocacy.

Adalah calls for eliminating Israel’s Jewish framework, and is based on the “one-state solution.”

Adalah’s officials were also involved in writing and editing a May 2009 South African publication with Al-Haq “an independent Palestinian non-governmental human rights organisation based in Ramallah, West Bank.’

“Occupation, Colonialism, Apartheid?: A re-assessment of Israel´s practices in the occupied Palestinian territories under international law.”

A 301 page PDF is available for download on the site. I urge you to read it in its entirety

Fancy that, a South African publication.

What a surprise!

The country that hosted the vile Durban Conferences, which gave us the insidious racist and antisemitic Boycotts, Divestments and Sanctions.

The document refers to ‘Israeli occupation’ as a

 “colonial enterprise which implements a system of apartheid.”

Findings of the study regarding colonialism:

“Five issues, which are unlawful in themselves, taken together make it evident that Israel’s rule in the OPT has assumed such a colonial character: namely, violations of the territorial integrity of occupied territory; depriving the population of occupied territory of the capacity for self-governance; integrating the economy of occupied territory into that of the occupant; breaching the principle of permanent sovereignty over natural resources in relation to the occupied territory; and denying the population of occupied territory the right freely to express, develop and practice its culture. […] Professor Dugard suggested that elements of the occupation resembled colonialism. This study demonstrates that the implementation of a colonial policy by Israel has not been piecemeal but is systematic and comprehensive, as the exercise of the Palestinian population’s right to self-determination has been frustrated in all of its principal modes of expression.”

Findings of the study regarding apartheid:

“Israel has acted in violation of this prohibition in the OPT by establishing a system of racial domination over the Palestinians through its fragmentation of the OPT, and the creation of separate reserves for Jewish and Palestinian groups therein, which is buttressed by severe restrictions on the Palestinian rights to freedom of movement and residence. This system further encompasses institutionalised discrimination against Palestinians in favour of Jewish-Israeli settlers in the enjoyment of a panoply of civil, political, social, economic and  cultural rights, as well as a matrix of draconian security laws and policies which subject opponents of Israel‘s regime of domination to, inter alia, extrajudicial executions, torture and arbitrary detention. Central to the conclusion is the finding that the ‘inhuman acts’ detailed are being committed by Israel in the OPT do not occur in random or isolated instances, but as integrated and complementary elements of an institutionalised and oppressive system of Israeli domination and oppression over Palestinians as a group; that is, a system of apartheid.”

It goes on to say:

“The conclusion that Israel has breached the international legal prohibitions of apartheid and colonialism in the OPT suggests that the occupation itself is illegal on these grounds. The legal consequences of these findings are grave and entail obligations not merely for Israel but also for the international community as a whole.”

Adalah falsely testified in the now dis-proven Goldstone Report and was referenced 38 times in that report.

“Produced under the politicized U.N. Human Rights Council, the fact-finding reflected in the Goldstone Report has been shown to be largely inaccurate. Similarly, international legal claims were distorted in a manner that maximized allegations of Israeli violations, while minimizing Hamas war crimes during the December 2008 January 2009 Gaza War.”

NGO Monitor analysis of Goldstone Report by Gerald Steinberg

From NGO Monitor.  Please read the link to find out much more.

  • Participated in a May 2009 NGO “town hall meeting” in Geneva that helped shape the course of the UN’s Goldstone Mission. Adalah was subsequently cited 38 times in the Goldstone report.
  • In its lobbying in support of the Goldstone report and its recommendations, Adalah issued a 2009 press release urging governments to “re-evaluate their relationship with Israel.”

Adalah New York runs the New York Campaign for the “Boycott of Israel” . The main thing is appears they are boycotting is Soda Stream. They don’t seem to be the least bit perturbed by the fact they will cause the Arabs unemployment.

They claim the factory sits on stolen land.

Stolen Land?

From whom?

It didn’t actually belong to anyone, even though the Arabs claim it as the future State of Palestine.

So why don’t they want peace?

Why won’t they talk?

Clearly the unemployment factor doesn’t bother ‘Peace Now’ either.

A friend visiting Israel very recently asked one of their representatives why they are boycotting settlement goods, despite the fact the Arabs have said it will leave them unemployed. The answer was “It’s the cause that counts”. That pretty much sums up what they are all about in my eyes.

Based on financial information submitted to the Israeli Registrar of Non-Profits, in accordance with the Israeli NGO transparency law, Adalah received NIS 1,948,459 from foreign governmental bodies in 2012. (As of December 5, 2013, Adalah has not submitted 2013 quarterly financial reports to the Israeli Registrar of Non Profits.)

Donors include the European Union, Switzerland, Germany (via EED and Medico International), Spain (via ACSUR), NDC (joint funding of Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands), UN Development Programme (UNDP), New Israel Fund, Ford Foundation, Open Society Institute, Oxfam-Novib, Christian Aid, and Broederlijk Delen (Belgium).

In 2008-2012, the New Israel Fund (NIF) authorized grants worth $1,602,686 to Adalah (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012).

A few other ‘crimes’ of Adalah.

  • One of the most politically active NGOs in opposing Israeli policy regarding the Bedouin in the Negev.
  • May 30, 2013 Adalah and the Negev Coexistence Forum (NCF) published a one-sided and factually inaccurate position paper (funded by the EU), reviewing the “Prawer-Begin Bill and the Forced Displacement of the Bedouin” and accusing Israel of “forcible displacement,” “dispossession,” and attempting to implement “the complete and final severance of the Bedouin’s historical ties to their land.”
  • Published an online “Discriminatory Laws Database,” that claims to collect “text, analyses, and legal action for present and proposed discriminatory laws in Israel and the OPT [Occupied Palestinian Territories].”
  • Adalah officials, in conjunction with radical Palestinian NGO Al-Haq, wrote and edited large portions of a May 2009 pseudo-academic study that refers to “a colonial enterprise which implements a system of apartheid.”
  • Submitted a legal opinion to a Spanish court in support of PCHR’s 2008 lawfare case against Israeli officials.
  • In 2007 drafted a  “Democratic Constitution,” which calls for replacing the Jewish foundation of the state with a “democratic, bilingual and multicultural” framework. Jewish immigration would be permitted for “humanitarian reasons.”
  • In April 2002, following Israel’s Operation Defensive Shield, Adalah filed a petition falsely alleging that the Israeli army “was collecting dead bodies on the outskirts of the Jenin refugee camp, apparently with the intention of burying them in mass, anonymous or numbered graves.” While the claims were later found to be baseless, the allegations continue to be exploited by anti-Israel organizations in an effort to demonize the state of Israel.
  • Adalah Director Hassan Jabareen and several colleagues played an active role in the NGO Forum of the UN World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance (WCAR) held in Durban in 2001, which was organized in an effort to promote the demonization and delegitimization of Israel, and served as the foundation for the boycotts, demonization, and sanctions (BDS) movement.

I leave you with this below and urge you to have a good look at the very informative NGO Monitor web site.

From Israel: “Give No Quarter!!”

The world is in horrendous shape.  And yet, yet the focus is on us, here …

  1. You don’t have to look far or be a university student to understand the absolute hypocrisy of these self styled “Human Rights” social justice advocates with only one real objective- the destruction of the only democratic state in the region and the only Jewish state in the world . The end justifies the means . It says it all when they are prepared to sacrifice the well being and employment prospects of the “poor Palestinians” for whom they supposedly are advocating, on the altar of the higher goal , the destruction of Israel. NIF well no surprises there.

  2. Betty have a good look at the NGO Monitor web site. It’s terrific

  3. “or should I say Far Left/Loony Left/The Enemy within, call them what you will” – Fifth Column would probably be the most accurate term.

    • I could come up with better, but it’s not too ladylike!!

    • More accurately is the SIXTH column. The fifth are the Arab Israelis, the sixth are the Jewish contingent.
      Some of the NIF big guns are right at the core of the Australian Jewish communal leadership. Those who are not ostensively NIF tolerate them and “explain” it by some idiotic procedural and protocol “impediments”. Yet NO ONE up there has EVER come out in clear terms against ANY of NIF’s nefarious traits.

      • Perhaps the relevant in formation from NGO monitor needs to be printed off and a petition to ban proven ANTIZionists from being allowed to participate in Pro Zionist organisations be organised. After all what can the motive be other than to destroy from within. We can’t let them hijack the meaning of “democracy” and blackmail the community into so called “politically correct” acceptance. There is too much Jew hatred outside without having the “enemy within” .

  4. They claim they support Israel Betty. They don’t see themselves as anti-Zionists.
    Melbourne is shocking. The dreadful AJDS is an affiliate of the JCCV.

    Read this I wrote while ago.

    • Shirlee, I agree with you about Melbourne. AJDS supports the pro-Palestinian groups, which promote BDS and other anti-Semitic actions. Why they are accepted under the umbrella of the JCCV is a mystery. The JCCV should not be supporting any group which advocates for the destruction of Israel and promotes anti-Semitism.

  5. Betty, you little madele of painful truths, you touched the most sensitive existential cords.
    I just said it on another thread here, we must do something outside the limited space of the web site, not that this PARTICULAR site does not evoke and encourage perhaps the BEST, most necessary voices of constructive, positive changes in our communal structures.

  6. The words “Peace” and/ or “Justice” in the title of an organisation give me the shudders, because when you look beneath the title it usually means the exact opposite. How the language has been hijacked!! The titles are meaningless. These organisations always advocate against Israel which can do no right and the other side can do no wrong. They argue for a one sided “Justice” , ethnic cleansing never happened in Arab countries or in 1948 when the invading Jordanian Army wiped out ancient Jewish communities and ofcourse the call for a Judenrein Palestine is NOT apartheid or unjust. As for peace , this can only happen when the Jews are no longer in the Middle East because they stir up all the trouble. The enemy is within, what to do? Hypocrisy and calumny abound. Action is required by the true Zionists. Who and where are they? What are they doing ? Is there an Australian equivalent of “Stand for Israel” or the “American Freedom Defence Initiative” ?

  7. I can’t understand why Israel would allow this group, which disseminates slanders against the State and ultimately seeks her destruction. As for the traitorous NIF, it’s hard to reconcile their statements that they support Israel with their actions on the ground. Their title says it all – New Israel Fund, which suggests they want to replace Israel, which has been an outstanding success on all levels, especially humantarian and in innovation, with some sort of dystopian vision of their own.

    What a pity that these groups, which claim to be so concerned with social justice and inequality, don’t turn their attrention to countries where there is no social justice and gross inequality – like ALL the countries surrounding Israel!

  8. Not so shocking , it ain’t !
    Just follow the latest in the Knesset. Tzipi Livni has blocked a law imposing taxes on NGOs financed from overseas and which promote policies inimical to Israel.
    Of all people, NGO Monitor agrees with Livni, pretending that an open democracy, as the one Israel is supposed to be, cannot function for the BENEFIT of Israel, if impositions are in place against” free expressions of alternate opinions” which “some” – being nominally the extreme right Zionists – would stifle.
    Undemocratic, they say……………..
    It seems that just talking among us is not good enough. Now we must send a few messages to those we thought all along that WERE “among” us.
    If you have NGO Monitor’s number I suggest you call it now.

  9. Shirlee
    NGO Monitor are, by far, one of the most efficient, most reliable orgs. in the field of defending all matter Jewish, Zionist. I owe them a huge debt of gratitude. They intervened with incredible efficiency in a case I presented. Gerald Steinberg is one of the dedicated minds to all causes worth defending.

    In this case, however, NGO Monitor could be seen as protecting a perception of equidistant appreciation of INTENSITY of necessary address to principles. I will explain what I mean.

    NGO Monitor has gained valuable influence with political and para-political entities. In a world of prevalent political correctness, where conventions override at times particular individual stances, concessions and “favours” are far more accessible if staunch impostions of particular agendas are seen to be diminished. A waltz of convenience is agreed upon and degrees of concessions are thus realised. I know and understand all that.

    In practice Israel itself must be seen at times to conceded to inimical notions of ethical”value” in order to access and maintain a presence REAL issues are still debated.
    it is simply a matter of appearance, of protocol.

    Yet, as we are debating here the access to the public arena and PURSE of organisations with a definite agenda opposing the fundamental EXISTENTIAL “agenda” of the JEWISH State, concessions of the type NGO Monitor would be expected to make, would be seen as counter-productive to their very OWN functional purpose.

    How do we balance the act !!??
    For starters the notion of “transparency” is no longer an issue.

    We all know precisely who does what, who pays how much in EVERY org. we would be interested in. The mere fact that some, if not all , orgs. do not voluntarily disclose their financial sources is neither here nor there. The public domain is fully aware of all details !!

    Thus, the main issues still remains the necessity to apply ethical principles of RETORT by the affected party. It simply means that Israelshould retort to an entity demanding function within the State system that it RESTRICTS is quantum of impact as NOT TO AFFECT the very foundation of the DEMOCRACY which allows it, the inimical entity, to inflict the type of wanton damage which would usurp the basis on which all democratic entities function, including the opposing stance entities.
    It is a measure which, through the means of taxation, would imply that those who attempt at the democratic edifice, would have their dynamics reduced, thus diminishing their inimical efficiency. The laws projected DO NOT interdict the activities of the said NGOs, they impose a modicum of ethical measures conducive by intent to maintaining the system which allows the, INDEED, to exist.
    It is a matter of sociopolitical balance, a HARMONY of stances, some polarised.
    The structure, expression, of democracy is , thus, consolidated, NOT imperiled.

    A shorter version of this could be available, but it is not !!
