2014 ZFA Jewish Educators’ conference

 

The 2014 ZFA Jewish Educators’ conference is approaching and we are thrilled to have a rich programme of interesting, diverse and exciting topics. The conference will be held at Mt. Scopus College, Melbourne on 17-18th August.

We have 82 presentations, 16 international presenters and 48 local presenters, providing something of interest and value for every type of educator. From secondary to primary and early learning, formal to informal education, text based Jewish studies to Jewish values all sessions are designed to enhance and strengthen our Jewish educators’ knowledge and teaching practices.

This conference is open to all members of the public who would like to discuss Israel and Jewish education, engagement and identity.

We previously announced that Israeli Education Minister, Rabbi Shai Piron MK would be visiting Australia as our special guest at the conference. Unfortunately, although understandably, the Minister has had to postpone his visit due to the current situation in Israel.

Of course, Operation Protective Edge and the impact of a war in Israel in educational frameworks is a significant issue, which the conference will be addressing. Our opening session will be focused on the topic: “Talking and teaching about Israel in a time of war” with panellists including Israeli guest speakers Dr Michael Gillis (Melton Centre for Jewish Education, Hebrew University) and educator and psychologist Ricki Bernstein. Many international presenters have re calibrated their sessions in light of the current situation.

 

Dr Miriam Munz, who is the Education Chairperson of the conference says: – “In addition to the outstanding program, this conference will provide an opportunity for Jewish educators from around Australia to experience an informal exchange of ideas and to establish connections for longer term cooperation.”
