Sure, he went through the usual motions of feigned support by saying the expected:
“As a father, I cannot imagine the indescribable pain that the parents of these teenage boys are experiencing. The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms this senseless act of terror against innocent youth…”
However, it was an opportunity for another jab at Israel, treating Israelis and Palestinians as equals in the ongoing violence:
“I also urge all parties to refrain from steps that could further destabilize the situation. As the Israeli people deal with this tragedy, they have the full support and friendship of the United States.”
In one breath he mentions friendship but in another encourages restraint from “all parties”. This makes it sound as if both Israelis and Palestinians play an equal role in the “destabilization”. Yet the Palestinians were the ones who kidnapped the boys and Palestinians who killed them. They displayed further savagery by attacking the ambulance which carried the bodies of the three teenagers, as a report on The Algemeiner shows:
As a further testament to the lopsided violence, Palestinians have kept up their rocket fire resulting in a burnt factory in Sderot, destroyed to such an extent that factory owner Baruch Kogen came back to find nothing left.
“There wasn’t even anything that survived to collect. Everything was burnt,” he said. “If the rocket had hit the factory on Thursday instead of Shabbat, there would have been 20 body bags.”
There is only one side which propagates terror, only one side which instills hatred and violence in its youth, indoctrinating its entire population to consume itself with hate.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said it best when speaking at the graduation of a Hamas youth training camp:
“The best way for us to celebrate the Prophet’s birthday is to walk in his footsteps and provide the future generations a Jihadi education. We shall walk in his footsteps in educating the future generation to love death for the sake of Allah as much as our enemies love life.”
These are the words they live by: “to love death as much as our enemies love life.” Indeed. While Jews wear the Chai necklace to celebrate life, Muslim Palestinians prepare their children to become suicide bombers. Yet Obama has the chutzpah to compare both sides, as if both sides need to calm down?
The State Department also joined Obama in calling for both sides to maintain patience and restraint. Not only does a statement like this essentially accuse Israel of the same barbarism as the Palestinian terrorists, but it also is a message to Israel to accept these murders lying down.
This is the time for Israel to be strong, to stop with the appeasement and to make Hamas pay, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised.
Our hearts go out to the families of Eyal Yifrah, Gilad Sha’ar and Naftali Frenkel.
