Muhammad Zoabi – Israeli/Arab/Zionist/Muslim.

I first came across Muhammad back in September 2013 in an article at “ A Jewish Israel” entitled

“Against the Grain: Muhammad Zoabi Talks About His Love for Israel and the Jewish People”

He was born to a Muslim Israeli family from Nazareth and is currently studying in high school .He has an older brother who lives with his father. His parents are divorced and he has lived with his mother and stepfather for approximately 10 years now.

Muhammad comes from a traditional Arab home where he’s had to deal with his share anti-Israeli propaganda. Muhammad has overcome overwhelming odds in order to become a voice of common sense and freedom in his community.

In an interview he says:

“I’m seriously considering serving in the IDF and I’ll need a lot of support to overcome the problems that my father’s family will create for me if I do so.”

When asked why he supports Israel he replied:

“I support Israel and I always will because very simply Israel is my country and I have no other place to call home. Whatever happens to my country, it affects me, my family, friends and the rest of the world no matter if they are Jews or Arabs!

I don’t support Israel just because of the benefits that I get like health care, a high standard of living, the local democracy, etc. I support it because it’s my country.”

I especially like this:

“What I say to Arab MKs (i.e. Haneen Zoabi) is: STOP YOUR GAMES BECAUSE WE ARE SICK OF THEM! We are NOT “Palestinians,” so if you want to represent the Palestinians, feel free to go to the so-called “Palestinian State Parliament,” and we will see how you will be treated there as a woman!”

The reason I LOVE this comment above is that Haneen Zoabi is related to Muhammad and the two couldn’t be more ideologically opposed if they tried. More later on this.

She is a Palestinian Arab and an Israeli citizen, the first Arab Israeli woman to be elected to the Israeli legislative body on an Arab party’s list.  Also she is vehemently anti Israel and has a string of strikes against her as long as your arm.

  • rejects the idea of Israel as a solely Jewish state, which she describes as “inherently racist.”
  •  says Lieberman, Tzipi Livni, and Benjamin Netanyahu are “all a bunch of fascists pure and simple”
  • at her swearing-in ceremony on February 24, 2009, she left the Knesset plenum before the singing of Hatikva, Israel’s national anthem. “‘Hatikva’ doesn’t represent me”, she later said. “I preferred to leave the room, because I don’t appreciate hypocrisy.”
  • also participated in the flotilla to Gaza.

Then the worst happened. Three young Israelis, two 16 year old and another 0f 19 were kidnapped on their way home from school.

Israeli boys

Mohammad decided to make a video calling for their release.

This really caused all hell to be let loose by his brother Arabs.

His Facebook page was covered in the most vile comments and threats imaginable, which I didn’t think to save. Truly beyond disgusting. The norm from people of this ilk seems to be “F you mother” “F your sister” and far worst. The threats were bad too, so Facebook put his page into hibernation.

IsraellyCool reported

3 members of a family in Nazareth were arrested on suspicion that they threatened to hurt their 17-year-old family member after he expressed solidarity with the three teenagers kidnapped in a movie spread via social networks.

Muhammad released this message :

Dear Friends,

Recently, I have been receiving a large amount of death and violence threats only for showing sympathy with the 3 innocent Israeli teens that were kidnapped in Judea and Samaria by terrorists.

Because of that I have decided meanwhile to keep a low profile.

I just felt that I have to inform you all that I’m OK, and I’ll be OK.

And I will continue to speak up for what is right, as long as I’m not hurting innocent people.

I’m safe and I will be safe, especially in a great country like Israel.

Am Yisrael Chai

Mohammad Zoabi

[Message repeated in Hebrew]

The abuse  and death threats coming from some quarters, mainly Arab was crude, abusive and violent. So much so his mother spoke out.

She defended her son  and castigated those who criticised and threatened him for expressing his views.

You know what?

she said on Tel Aviv Radio.

“Maybe I taught my son to fight for justice, my son got up and had the courage to speak. In my life, I have never spoken like this. Maybe I felt it inside, but I never dared [to speak out]. He had the courage.

“Ultimately, he is a child, not quite 17, and he feels this and wants to broadcast it; he has hope that he can [make a difference], change things,”

she said.

“It’s truly unfortunate that he thinks he can make a difference. He doesn’t know that he lives in a world that is so cruel that it won’t let him say what he wants and what he feels.”

This now is where his relative the controversial MK Hanin Zoabi (Balad) comes into the picture, being targeted for the following for saying  last weekend “The kidnappers of three yeshiva students are not terrorists” in an interview as reported in the Jerusalem Post

“They’re people who don’t see any way to change their reality and they are forced to use these means until Israel will wake up a little, until Israeli citizens and society will wake up and feel the suffering of the other,”
Zoabi said in an interview on Radio Tel Aviv, adding that the kidnappers live under occupation.
“So an Israeli MK is openly justifying the kidnapping of Israeli boys?”
the interviewer, Sharon Gal, asked.
“I’m not surprised at all,” she responded.
“I’m surprised you’re still walking around freely,”
Gal said, and Zoabi hung up on him.
Immediately after the interview, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said
“not only are the kidnappers terrorists, Hanin Zoabi is a terrorist too.”
“The fate of the kidnappers and the fate of the inciter who encourages kidnapping Hanin Zoabi should be the same,”
Soon after, Knesset Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women chairwoman Aliza Lavie (Yesh Atid) asked Zoabi in a committee meeting:
“How are [the kidnappers] not terrorists?”
“Shut up, you don’t deserve to be a committee chairwoman. Are you policewoman? You are a racist,” Zoabi shouted in response.
Elsewhere Culture and Sport Minister Limor Livnat said Zoabi “should be put on trial”, while Housing and Construction Minister Uri Ariel claimed that Zoabi is a “prize for terror inside the Knesset”. Tourism Minister Uzi Landau concurred, calling her “an ambassador of terrorism
