‘The Enemy Within’ – Take 2

Browsing my saved anti-Israel Facebook pages earlier, I opened one I haven’t looked at in a while.

To tell you the truth, anti-Israel sites make me sick to the pit of my stomach at the best of times, but Jewish ones more so, so it takes some doing

What I read there is beyond funny and so this is ‘Take 2″ of an item I wrote last year about our very own ‘Enemy within’, our very own ‘Australians for Palestine’ right amongst us, the Australian Jewish Democratic Society’.  They are amongst us in more ways than you think. I am also appalled by the fact that within our communal organisations we have people in official positions who are members of the New Israel Fund, just for starters.   NGO Monitor gives a good run down on them

‘The Enemy Within’

Australian Jewish Democratic Society (AJDS) - Elsternwick, VIC

They live up to their nickname beautifully. Even down to boycotting settlement goods and calling Jerusalem Al Quds and having not only English and Hebrew on their logo, but Arabic too.

Even actively being involved with the antisemitic BDS.

I came across the following letter sent by them to our Foreign Minister, the Honourable Julie Bishop, in reply to this article

“Australia FM: Don’t call settlements illegal under international law in the Times of Israel”

They ask “Do you agree with Julie Bishop?

If not send her an email and let her know!” Julie.Bishop.MP@aph.gov.au

So I am suggesting we do and thank her for standing up for the truth.

AJDS Letter to Julie Bishop Australian Foreign Minister 17 Jan 2014

Australian Jewish Democratic Society (AJDS)

Dear Ms Bishop,The Australian Jewish Democratic Society views with considerable concern the change in Australia’s stance regarding the Occupied Territories and the status of illegal settlements there as reported in the interview with you in The Times of Israel 10 January 2014. The AJDS continues to support UN resolutions and interpretations of international law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention. Article 49, paragraph 6, states that an occupying power “shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.”The policies of Occupation enacted by Israel have caused the deaths of thousands of Palestinians, expulsion of hundreds of thousands more, and the imposition of a brutal control regime, resulting in ongoing limits on freedom of movement, as well as the theft of land, water, and other resources. It continues to feed Palestinian acts of revenge.  For Australia to refrain from any criticism in the UN, or to cast doubt on the agreement in the international community that the occupation is illegal, and cruel, is a highly irresponsible and damaging act by this country.

In addition, for you to be pictured in a photo opportunity with Minister Lieberman is also highly negligent given Lieberman’s blatantly racist agenda, which supports the expulsion of Palestinians.  Lieberman is no friend of democracy for Jewish Israelis either and is viewed with great suspicion by many Jews, particularly in the US and Israel. Your action also gives a green light to extremist elements in Israel and their supporters in the Australian Jewish community.

Likewise, wreath-laying at Ariel Sharon’s grave appears to be the endorsement of politics and methods that were completely rejected by 400,000 Israelis during protests against the Lebanon War—Sharon’s war, which also resulted in the devastating Sabra and Shatila massacres. Sharon also led the incitement which resulted in the killing of Yitzhak Rabin. Your activity does not represent “balance” in foreign policy, but a blatant support of rejectionist politics.

It gives the message instead that you do not support the current round of activity being undertaken by the Obama administration, which the Administration itself has said may be the final opportunity to achieve a two-state solution.

The Australian Jewish Democratic Society has been established for over 30 years, and represents an important voice in the Jewish community. It has taken positions in the past such as the need for the recognition of the PLO and the need for direct negotiations. These views were strongly opposed by other organisations in the Jewish community, yet they came to be Israeli government policy. Thus while often critical of Israeli politics, we have regarded our advocacy over the decades as working in the interests of a peaceful life peace for Israelis and Palestinians and indeed, our views are reflective of substantial sections of Israeli society.

It is time for Australia to speak plainly to Israel about the urgent need to end the settlements, eliminate settler violence and set in place an internationally-supported process that results in withdrawal from the territories and a final resolution of the conflict.

Yours sincerely,

Australian Jewish Democratic Society (AJDS) - Elsternwick, VIC

  1. Palestinian activist group AJDS are affiliated with J.C.C V I wonder how many Israeli activist groups are affiliated with the JCCV equivalent ICV Islamic Council of Victoria?

The AJDS and like-minded anti-Israel zealots do not campaign “for ‘Palestinian’ human rights;”
they campaign for the phased dissolution of Israel.
If they were genuine in their faux concern, they would not be telling lies and half-truths; they would admit that it is the Arab “Palestinian” obduracy and refusal to accept that Jews have human rights, too, that is the root cause of the conflict.

    • Harvey Garfield from the British Israel Coalition asked me what I know about him as he’s had a good few run-ins with him.

Have a look at the AJDS FB if you feel like being ill.

Well, maybe the AJDS will get the Nobel Peace prize; they will be in good company, namely Yasser Arafat’s. Or maybe Bob will give them the Sydney Peace prize; ‘onya Bob, mate.
The current Australian Government, unlike the ALP, is doing the right thing: it knows the facts and ignores the malevolent propaganda and lies of specimens such as the AJDS, whose extremism exceeds even that of many non-Jewish zealots.
The Coalition Government’s approach is sensible and realistic; the AJDS and its like-minded non-Jewish enemies of Israel clearly want the phased dissolution of the Jewish nation-state.

    • They truly are an abomination and worst still is that so many of them are academics at Universities. Goodness only knows what ‘crap’ they are filling the heads of our young with.

  3. No worse than treachery within. A malevolent cancer, no surprise these people would aspire to act as capos to their Philistine master to drive their own people into the sea. As a survivor I shudder at the thought. Why do they call themselves “Jewish ” ?????

  4. Leon Poddebsky

Why don’t the Jews of the JCCV secede en masse from it, leaving the AJDS as a rump?

  5. I grew up in a time when “Zionism” , “Judaism” and “Jewishness” were to my ear pretty much synonymous and with good reason. I did not even know that there was such a thing as an anti- Zionist Jew until I read about it in one of Chaim Potok’s beautiful novels in my teens.

These days my own connection with the religion is to say the least scant. I take no pride in that. It just is, is all. But I have to say that a person who identifies as a Jew solely or mainly for the purpose of dumping on Israel and the Jews strikes me as morally the lowest form of the human condition. Especially if they do it from the safety of the other side of the world. I mean that quite literally.

They are worse than the ugliest of the kapos. At least the kapos were trying to save their own lives.

The cowardice and fatuous vanity of it is beyond the reach of my grasp of the language to describe.

    • With you there 100% Geoff. They run Israel into the ground, take part in BDS and their triumphant moment is when they proudly state.

      “Well I am a Jew”

That was last said to me at a BDS rally. I gave him a look that would kill and replied “Then you should be ashamed of yourself and you’d better watch your neck, being Gay, they’ll soon hang you from the nearest crane

No serious or respectable lawyer has ever said that the “settlements” are illegal under international law. Please give me a single example? I’ve never been able to find one. No serious or respectable lawyer would say such a thing and hope to keep his or her reputation. There is a simple reason for this. It is because they are not illegal and to claim that they are would be to expose an ignorance of law and legal interpretation that would expose them as outright frauds. This is a claim that is made only by politically driven academics and journalists without any legal qualifications whatsoever.

It is about time that this was said by people who have the qualifications and duty to say so. What is at stake here is the very concept of international law and the rule of law itself.

A law which states that Jews do not have the right to live in Jerusalem or Judea and Samaria on land lawfully bought or possessed is a law not worth having. We are better off without such a law. We are better off without any law. This is Nazi law. Pure and simple. I invite those with any legal qualifications to do the research and do their duty and say so.
