Message from ZCNSW President .

The year has come and gone and what a year it has been for the ZCNSW.
The past few weeks have been extremely busy ones.

Richard Balkin, President of the Zionist Council of NSW.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Israel’s new Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Shmuel Ben-Shmuel, at a function co-hosted with the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, JNF, UIA, WIZO & ZDVO.

President of ZCNSW Richard Balkin & Ambassador of the State of Israel, His Excellency Shmuel Ben-Shmuel

The Ambassador gave a heartfelt speech outlining his background and I have no doubt that we at the ZCNSW will enjoy as close a relationship with him as we did with his predecessor Yuval Rotem.    We also enjoyed the company of the Ambassador at our annual Chanukah party where he had the opportunity to meet a number of the Israeli shlichim in Sydney.

On the subject of Chanukah, our Hagshama division held a very successful Chanukah party attended by over 350 young members of the Sydney community.  Dana Amir from our office has done a sterling job this year for Hagshama on what I have no doubt is the smallest budget imaginable!  Kol hakavod to Dana and our thanks for the superb graphic art she produces for the ZCNSW.

These events were followed by the visit to Sydney of Naftali Bennett, Israel’s Minister for the Economy as well as Minister for Jerusalem & the Diaspora.  We co-hosted a communal event and this was attended by over 600 members of the community.  We also had the pleasure of co-hosting a breakfast for communal leaders which the Minister addressed.

Our annual “Madsem” was sandwiched in between all this.  Madsem is an annual event where we bring together all the madrichim from the Youth Movements for training in First Aid, kitchen hygiene and duty of care, prior to the commencement of summer camps.  Yasher Koach to our office, our Youth Movement shlichim and the Zionist Youth Council for an excellent effort.

We have also had the pleasure of welcoming Ortal Dary, the new shlicha for Betar who arrived in Sydney this week.  We wish her “hatzlacha” in all her endeavours.

All that is left for me to do now is to thank our Executive Director, Lynn Niselow and Dana Amir for their hard work this year and for being such an integral part of our success.

My thanks also to Vice President Sharon Wahlhaus, and Treasurer Rodney Naumburger and of course to our Hon. Life President, Ron Weiser A.M. for all that they have done for the ZCNSW over the past twelve months.

I wish you all safe and happy holidays.
