Was this McCully’s pay off for stabbing Israel in the back?

NZ Foreign Minister Murray McCully.

On Christmas Eve last year, Murray McCully signed up New Zealand to support despots, dictators and terrorists against the only democratic nation in the Middle East.

Now it appears we can get a glimpse of what he was angling for:

The resumption of trade ties with Iran appears closer following the signing of a new deal with the Iranian government.
The signing of a meat arrangement means sheep and beef exports to Iran can now resume. Steps are underway to develop Kiwifruit exports as well.
The Minister for Primary Industries, Nathan Guy, is calling the agreement,
“a crucial step for New Zealand meat companies as they look to re-enter the Iranian market.”
Trade had previously curtailed because of sanctions against Iran over its nuclear programme.

Could this be the payoff McCully was looking for?

Great, we abandon a democracy all for a trade deal with the very country which finances and enables the terror organisations that are attacking Israel.

Nice work there Murray.

Wikipedia states:

Since the Iranian Revolution in 1979, the government of Iran has been accused by members of the international community of funding, providing equipment, weapons, training and giving sanctuary to terrorists.
The United States State Department describes Iran as an “active state sponsor of terrorism.” Former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice elaborated stating, “Iran has been the country that has been in many ways a kind of central banker for terrorism in important regions like Lebanon through Hezbollah in the Middle East, in the Palestinian Territories, and we have deep concerns about what Iran is doing in the south of Iraq.”
[…]
The United States State Department states that this organization provides support for Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad in Israel. They also say that Pasdaran has given much support and training to terrorists supporting the Palestinian resistance. They are also accused of aiding the Iraqi insurgency in southern Iraq. On September 26, 2007, the United States Senate passed legislation by a vote of 76-22 designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization. U.S. President George W. Bush and Congress labeled the group under the guidelines established by Executive Order 13224 issued after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
In August 2012, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei instructed the Revolutionary Guards and Quds Force to increase their terror attacks due to what the Iranian government perceived as their interests being threatened by United Nations sanctions and the West’s support of Syrian opposition. In January 2017, Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohamed Bin Salman said that Iran represents ”the three main ills of the region” which are “borderless ideologies, state instability, and terrorism” and that there is “no point in negotiating with a power that is committed to exporting its exclusivist ideology, engaging in terrorism, and violating the sovereignty of other nations”.

In Murray McCully’s world trade with a state that sponsors terrorism is preferable to a state that is the only democracy in the Middle East. There are hundreds of UN resolutions against Israel. How many do you think there have been against Iran, a sponsor of terror organisations?

I’ll tell you…just eleven. Only eleven resolutions out of 2400 resolutions of the UN relate to Iran.

Compare that with the list of resolutions against Israel. There are 226 Security Council resolutions alone!

The UN is biased, Murray McCully is biased. New Zealand has sold our reputation as an honest broker for a few million Iranian rial. It’s a reputation that was hard won and sold off for bugger all.

  1. Was an Iranian trade deal the reason New Zealand screwed Israel in the United Nations?

I think it was not the whole reason. To my mind part of the reason is a strong Christian supercessionism element. White New Zealanders, you know the ones who stole the islands from the indigenous (sort of) Maoris, are remarkably heterogeneous and the Anglican and Presbyterian churches are still very dominant. Part of the reason is also a form of jealousy and revenge coming from that. They are still pissed about the passport scandal, even more from the apparent disregard Israel and the world pays towards New Zealand (part of Australia!!!) while Israel is obsessively on the world’s radar.
